Notes for Developers
I would love to say that I can afford plenty of developer assistance, but I will be working to a small budget. For an experienced developer, perhaps the development and testing time would run into 15-25 hours for the easier tasks.
Its hard to know how long it will take, and a lot of it will depend on how much experience developers have with one or more process's, and the best method that they can recommend. I would look forward to any suggestions.
Ideally, the experienced developer would have t heir own Arduino Main Board ? This is the one that I am considering buying. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC4262
Some of the smaller modules are cheap enough for me to buy one for the Developer, and one for me, and they could keep the modules used during development. Once the programs have been written and tested ( I think they call it a "Sketch"), and are working at on the Developers test area, I can get them working with appropriate instructions at my end. ( I have a programming background ) I know their are several languages available, I would prefer c++
Some of the targets may not be easy to achieve, so they should probably be about prioritized in order of importance. Perhaps the first 3 would be :-
1) Getting a GPS module working to data-log the Speed.
2) Logging power usage ( DC 7 volt )
3) Using a 3 axis accelerometer board , to detect heel angles and/or acceleration eg.(https://www.sparkfun.com/pages/accel_gyro_guide)
The hard ones would be
c) Record Wind speed ( Pitot Tube ? )

d) Record wind direction
e) Record Rudder angle
f) Record Sail Sheeting Angle
